It is a method of applying water and nutrients directly to the plant root area at a controllable rate which allows maximum results and the minimum use of water. Large swings in soil moisture cause plant stress and will adversely affect plant growth and production. By controlling the area and the rate at which water is applied, soil moisture can be optimised.
